Basia Mietus - Ontario Certified Teacher

Basia (pronouced ba-SHA) Mietus is an Ontario Certified Teacher with a passion for teaching hands-on science, math and STEM. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph in 2014 and then went on to earn her Bachelor of Education from Ontario Tech University in 2016. She loves to share her knowledge of technology with students especially graphic design, coding and robotics. Basia loves teaching at Caledon Elementary Academy because they offer small class sizes where she can customize the learning experience for each student’s individual strengths. 

Brittany Van den Heuvel - Ontario Certified Teacher

Brittany brings a passion for early learning and well-rounded development to her work with young children. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from York University, where she focused on early dance education and kinesiology, and later earned her Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior) from Trent University.

With a commitment to play-based and developmentally appropriate practices, Brittany creates inclusive, engaging environments where young learners flourish through creativity, exploration, and meaningful connection.

Believing in the power of integrative learning, she weaves together social-emotional development, foundational academics, and self-expression to support the whole child. Her approach nurtures each student’s sense of self while sparking curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Brittany is thrilled to join the Caledon Elementary Academy community and looks forward to helping every child feel confident, capable, and celebrated on their learning journey.

Ashley Dias - Ontario Certified Teacher

Ashley is an Ontario Certified Teacher who graduated from Niagara University’s Teacher Education Program in 2017. With a background in Child Development and Early Childhood Education, she has worked alongside children of all ages for over 13 years. Ashley is passionate about creating a learning environment where students feel supported to grow at their own pace, while also being challenged to work hard, take risks, and embrace new learning experiences — all within a fun, engaging space surrounded by their peers. She truly loves teaching in the primary grades and is dedicated to helping young learners build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. 

Ashley has truly enjoyed being part of the Caledon Elementary Academy family. It has been a pleasure for her to work in a school community where students, staff, and families support one another in every endeavour. She values the collaborative spirit of the school and feels grateful to contribute to such a positive learning environment.

Melissa Shannon - Ontario Certified Teacher

Ms. Melissa is an Ontario Certified Teacher with a passion for creating an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. She earned her degree in Psychology, and Child & Family Studies from the University of Guelph in 2016, before heading to Brock University for her Bachelor of Education. Through her studies, Melissa developed a love for creating dynamic lessons that capture the imagination of students while fostering critical thinking and collaboration. Student well-being is at the heart of Ms. Melissa’s teaching philosophy. She prioritizes social and emotional learning by embedding mindfulness, empathy and communication skills into daily classroom routines. She is so excited to be a part of the Caledon Elementary Academy family, and is looking forward to learning and growing with her students this year.
